- Letter to Zenon from Nikon, agent in the Memphite nome of Apollonios, minister of finances (dioiketes), reporting on the registration of some persons with the collectors of the salt-tax. Part of the address is on the back; PSI V 493 preserves the rest of the letter with the docket, including date of receipt and summary.

- Right-hand portion of a papyrus slip another portion of which is in Florence, published as PSI V 493; medium-brown, with some damage along horizontal folds; bearing writing on both sides. On the front, there are the ends of 3 lines written across the fibres; upper, lower and right margins are extant. On the back, there is the end of one word running along the fibres. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Dimensions: 71 x 202 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 120 x 255 mm.
Script: Small, neat, upright hand, presumably Nikon’s. Same hand as Papyrus 2674.

Origin: Memphite nome (?), Egypt.
Provenance: Philadelpheia, meris of Herakleides, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 2652-2721 from Dr. A. N. Kondilios in July 1925. Part of a joint purchase with the University of Michigan and Columbia University.
