- Title:
- Sale of a Boat (P.Lond. V 1726, TM 15313), and Contract of Sale (P.Lond. V 1735, TM 36931)
- Scope & Content:
-
Papyrus 1803 A (TM 15313): The recruit Patermouthis, perhaps upon his joining the regiment of Syene, sells a large boat which he had bought from Kyros of Upper Apollonopolis for 19 2/3 solidi, roughly the price of a three-story house. All formulas of this sale are identical with those of the house conveyances. This Flavius Patermouthis, whose father is Menas alias Benne and whose mother is Thekla, is distinct from the central figure of the archive. That Patermouthi(o)s is at this time an Aurelius and is the son of Menas (no alias) and Tsia. At some point the boat of this document must have passed from the hands of Menas son of Paulos into the possession of the Patermouthis who was the owner of the archive, at which time he thereby gained possession also of the present deed. Joining P.Münch. I 4 & 5 verso.
Papyrus 1803 B (TM 36931): Aurelia Tarse sells to an unknown person a fifth-share of a house for three solidi.
