Saint Basil the Younger (died 944 or 952) lived in Asia Minor. His biography was written by his follower Gregory. It includes visions of Gregory about posthumous fate of Basil's follower Saint Theodora (so named Ordeals blessed Theodora) and a vision of Last Judgement. The Biography was very popular among Old Believers. This manuscript is a fragment of miscellanea and it belongs to Old Russian tradition. It was written in the 17th century but then it was kept and used by Old believers. The end of the text is lost.

Василий Новый, преподобный (ум. 944 или 952 г.), жил в Малой Азии. Житие написано его учеником Григорием. Житие включает видения Григория, в которых ему открылась посмертная судьба ученицы Василия Нового преподобной Феодоры (мытарства преподобной Феодоры), а также видение Страшного суда. Житие было чрезвычайно популярно у старообрядцев. Данная рукопись представляет собой отрывок сборника, относится к древнерусской традиции. Она написана в XVII веке, впоследствии хранилась и использовалась старообрядцами. Конец Жития утрачен.

Extent: 22 folios sewn together.

Size and dimensions of original material: Height 18 cm, width 14 cm.

Condition of original material: It is a part of lost book without binding. The folios are sewn together. The manuscript was restored, the folios are glued with restoration paper. There are a lot of spots on the sheets. Text on the folio 1r is fading.

Custodial history: The manuscript was collected during the archeographical expedition to the Kargopol region in 1965.

The new edition of the Greek and Slavonic text is: Житие Василия Нового в древнейшем славянском переводе. По рукописи РГБ, собрание Е.Е. Егорова 162 с параллельным греческим текстом по рукописи Athous Dionysiou 107. Т. 1: Исследования. Тексты / изд. подг. Т.В. Пентковская, Л.И. Щеголева, С.А. Иванов. М., 2018. Т. 1-2. The manuscript Kargopol. 14 is not used in these editions.
