- Scope & Content:
-
Saint Alexander was a hegumen of Osheven monastery. He was also called Alexander of Kargopol and his cult was great at the Russian North and in Kargopol region among Old believers. Alexander Oshevensky was a founder of the monastery in the 15th century in the North. His Life was written in 1567 by monk Theodosij; later a lot of miracles were included in it. The latest miracle in this manuscript is dated by 1655 so the manuscript keeps the Life created before church split. The manuscript uncludes also the service to Saint Alexander. There are a lot of multicoloured bookmarks made of textile glued to the pages. These bookmarks marked the most favourite places for reading. There is a note about creating the book on the first page: "Payed for binding and for leather and for all to Stepan 3 Rubles". There is a note also on the back of the bottom cover of binding: "1926 April 14 Anisia Kirilova died". The manuscript was bought from E.S. Perepelkina from village Okruga Plesetsky region Arkhangelsk district.
