Instructions for icon artists and church calendar
Ikonopisnyj podlinnik I svjatzy
- Scope & Content:
-
The manuscript of the beginning of the 20th century contains a rare type of book named church calendar with instructions for icon artists on drawing the Saints and receipts of colours. There are schematic icons on f. 1r, 2r, 12v. The pattern of the manuscript was a book with instructions for icon artists of the first half of the 17th century as one of the latest dates is 7127 (1619); it is connected with the history of the cloister of Triphon of Pechenga (f. 94v). The manuscript was written on the machine paper with a stamp "Mill of heirs of Sumkin" (the last third of the 19th century - the beginning of the 20th century). An icon pattern is put into the manuscript (f. 95a), it is a copy of the icon (proris') made by stabbing. There are also documents of the owner of the manuscript dated by 1916: a letter sent by the owner with his initials "M. Iv" to his confessor Prochor Philippovich, and the pecuniary notes of the owner. Then there is an envelop of the letter sent to Kargopol with dates 1893, 1895, glued on the binding.
