Scope & Content:

The manuscript of the end of the 18th century contains the Legend about Timofej of Vladimir; its end is lost. It is an Old Russian legend, written in the end of the 15th century about a priest Timofej, who felt into a sin during confession and run to the Golden Horde. Then he wanted to return and asked Grand Duke Ivan the Third about forgiveness. It was a popular Legend in Medieval Russia and later, among Old Believers. There is a note on the last folio with the date 1894 but it does not indicate the date of writing the manuscript.

В рукописи конца 18 века сохранилась Повесть о Тимофее Владимирском; ее конец утрачен. Это древнерусская повесть, написанная в конце 15 века, о владимирском священнике Тимофее, который впал в грех во время исповеди и в страхе бежал в Орду, но затем раскаялся, захотел вернуться и испросил прощение у великого князя Ивана III. Текст был популярен как в средневековой России, так и позже, среди старообрядцев. На последнем листе сохранилась дата 1894, но она не указывает на время написания рукописи.

Extent: 11 folios.

Size and dimensions of original material: Height 22 cm, width 17 cm.

Condition of original material: Manuscript has not a cover. It is in a bad condition as the folios are very dirty, they are torn. The inks are faden away. The last folio is a fragment of sheet.

Custodial history: The manuscript was collected during the archeographical expedition to the Old believers in 1975.
