Nikon church oathes for old believers priests
Prisjagi nikonianskoj cerkvi dlja svjaschennikov staroobrjadcev
- Scope & Content:
-
It is a hectograph published in the end of the 19th or in the beginning of the 20th century. It contains copies of the texts of oathes written in 1679, 1720 and 1725 by Moscow patriarch Ioakim and Theophan Prokopovich. The oathes were intended for Old Believers who wanted to get a position as an office employee or to be consecrated as a priest in the Orthodox church (named by Old Believers "Nikon's church" in memory of patriarch Nikon reforms). There is a detailed conclusion of the Old believer author in the end of the book in which the author described different cases of martyrdom of Old Believers and inspired a reader to keep the old faith. Hectographs let to get numerous copies of a manuscript. Old Believers used them widely as their potentialities to print their books in printing plants were hardly limited.
