- Title:
- Account and Letters from the Archive of Zenon (P.Lond. VII 2140, TM 1700; P.Lond. VII 2067, TM 1628)
- Scope & Content:
-
Recto (P.Lond. VII 2140, TM 1700): Account of daily expenses, including totals and remainders and listing various items, such as wood, lentils, castor and olive oil, water, bread, eggs, brain, trotters, quails, figs, salt, honey, wine, chickpeas, condiments, meat, as well as payments to individuals.
Verso (P.Lond. VII 2067, TM 1628): Two drafts of letters from Zenon concerned with the conveyance to Memphis of a man, sent by the strategus Aphthonetos. The first letter (lines 1-8), lacking the beginning, was presumably addressed to one of Zenon’s agents at Kerke; Zenon advises the recipient that he has written to the ship-captain. The letter to the ship-captain Harmouthes follows (lines 9-17), with the order to embark the man and return to Kerke straightaway. Possibly dated between 246 and 240 BC.
