This case relates to the furlough allowance owed to Mr Burt as an engineer in the Public Works Department of India, and additional cases of pension and allowance benefits for uncovenanted servants of the Indian Civil Service. Mr Burt claimed that he entered training at the Coopers Hill Engineering College after reading the terms of employment printed in the 1875 prospectus, but that an amended prospectus for that year was released without his knowledge amending the terms, especially relating to furlough allowance.
