The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Office at Freetown between 1 January 1843 and 28 June 1844. The information provided in the entries includes the date, the name of the Police Magistrate who heard the case, the name of the person charged, the offence and the sentence. The length of information provided varies from three lines to several pages. Reports of cases sometimes include the names and accounts of the plaintiff and defendant, of the Police Constable and of some witnesses. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. There is extensive water damage, and the ink is fading. Some pages have been mended with tape.
