This volume contains details of cases heard in the Police Court at Freetown and taken by the Assistant Police Magistrate between 8 August and 12 November 1862. For each case the volume provides the date and location, the names of the constable or plaintiff and of the defendants. It includes a short title describing what the case relates to, the constable or plaintiff’s oaths, and sometimes of the witnesses and defendants. It records whether the defendants pleaded guilty, whether they were convicted, and their sentences. The first eleven pages are a directory listing the cases alphabetically by name of the defendants. It also provides the page number where the case can be found, the offence, and how it was disposed of. The volume is bound in damaged brown cloth boards. There is extensive damage from iron gall.
