- Title:
- Extracts from Official Records (SB V 7601, TM 17991)
- Scope & Content:
- Extracts from the official minutes of the strategus, recording lawuits concerned with the tax on sales (enkyklion). The first lawsuit (Fragments A-B, and possibly the beginning of C) is fragmentary and appears to be against Callinicus, Dioscorus and Heraclides. The second lawsuit (fr. C) is an extract from the minutes of Claudius Apollonius, strategus of the Herakleopolite nome, and concerns the dispute between Castor, son of Asclepiades, and Heron, inspector of the tax on sales. Castor accused Heron of wrongly demanding payment of the tax on a sixth part of a house, although he is a citizen of Antinoopolis, and, as such, exempt from the tax. Heron argued that exemption applied only to property purchased in Antinoopolis. The strategus remitted to the epistrategus, who had investigated a similar case.
