- Title:
- Petition from the Archive of Dioscorus (P.Lond. V 1676, TM 19695)
- Scope & Content:
- A man petitions the dux against the attempts of Petros to make the petitioner and his wife liable for taxes. The petitioner’s father had become a monk and left him in the care of his maternal uncle Colluthus, who later became his father-in-law, as the petitioner married his daughter. Upon their marriage, Colluthus gave some property to his daughter as the dowry. Falling ill, he had to sell the greatest part of his property to Petros, who undertook to pay taxes on it. Upon Colluthus’ death, however, Petros tried to shift responsibility for the property taxes on the petitioner. The text continues on the back.
