Papyrus fragments recovered from mummy cartonnage, with plaster and painted decoration on the back.
Second fragment at the top (Papyrus 2986) (P.Hib. II 221, TM 65722): Fragment of a prose text concerning the story of the Danaids, possibly a mythological or historical work, or hypothesis of an unknown tragedy.
Other fragments (Papyrus 2987) (P.Hib. II 221, TM 65722): Fragments bearing verses, apparently from an unknown tragedy.

Fragments extracted from mummy cartonnage, some of which belong together; the writing runs on the front, and the back bears traces of plaster and painted decoration; housed in the same glass frame.
Second fragment at the top (Papyrus 2986): Medium-brown fragment, broken off on all sides; the front bears portions of 10 lines running along the fibres, the first two lines only having a few traces; the back is partly covered with plaster.
Other fragments (Papyrus 2987): Possibly all from the same papyrus; the largest fragment at the top left bears portions of 6 lines, while the traces of ink below belong to another sheet superposed; the fragment in the centre has parts of 5 lines; the fragment at the top rightcarries portions of 8 lines. The outstanding scraps preserve only a few letters. The back of the fragments is partly covered with plaster and painted decoration.

Dimensions: Papyrus 2986: 36 x 70 mm; Papyrus 2987, top left fragment: 30 x 125 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 220 x 165 mm.
Script: Papyrus 2986: Small and well-formed book-hand, upright and generally bilinear; separating all letters. Papyrus 2987: Regular, medium-sized and well-formed book-hand, upright and with contrast between narrow and large letterforms; serifs in a few places (see tau).
