Dhikr al-adwiyah al-mufradah ذكر الأدوية المفردة
Najīb al-Dīn al-Samarqandī, Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī نجيب الدين السمرقندي، محمد بن علي
- Scope & Content:
-
Inventory of pharmaceutical ingredients, arranged in alphabetical order. Each entry includes the item's humoral properties and uses. This is followed by a short list of laxative ingredients and preparations (في ذكر الأدوية المسهلة, f. 78r-80v) and two pages of medical recipes and notes in Arabic and Persian (f. 81r-81v). The copy was transcribed 'during the months of' 984, probably Rabīʿ I or II (May-July 1576) given its placement between two other dated texts (see colophon, f. 80v, lines 9-11 transcribed below).
Although the present copy does not acknowledge its authorship, a text by this name is frequently found in copies of the collections of medical writings by Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī Najīb al-Dīn al-Samarqandī (نجيب الدين السمرقندي، محمد بن علي, d. 1222), which often circulated under the title al-Najībīyah al-Samarqandīyah.
