Scope & Content:

Upper papyrus (A) (P.Lond. V 1789, TM 36950): Sixth-century letter on private matters, presumably addressed to the sender’s mother. The address is on the back.

Lower papyrus (B) (P.Lond. V 1880 descr., TM 19783): Fragment of a lease of land, dating from some time after 602. Under publication.

Two papyrus sheets that do not belong together, housed in the same glass frame.

Upper papyrus (A): Upper left portion of a medium-brown papyrus sheet, written on both sides. The front bears the beginnings of 5 lines written across the fibres; on the back, there is the beginning of 1 line, written along the fibres, upside down in relation to the text on the front.

Lower papyrus (B): Upper right corner of a medium-brown papyrus sheet, written on one side along the fibres. The front bears the ends of 9 lines; upper and right margins are extant. The back is blank.

Provenance: Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 1545-1753 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 8 December 1906.
