A commentary on Wasīlat al-ḥisāb (وسيلة الحساب), by Shihāb al-Dīn Abū al-‘Abbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Hāʼim al-Maqdisī al-Faraḍī (شهاب الدين أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد بن الهائم المقدسي الفرضي, d. 1412), known as Ibn al-Hā’im (ابن الهائم), which is itself an abstract from its author's own al-Maʻūnah fī ʻilm al-hawāʼī (المعونة في علم الهوائي), a manual of mental arithmetic. The lemmata of the base text are overlined in red to distinguish them from the text of the commentary.
The commentary is by Badr al-Dīn Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shāfi‘ī al-Miṣrī al-Dimashqī (بدر الدين أبو عبد الله محمد بن محمد بن أحمد الشافعي المصري الدمشقي, d. 1490) known as Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (سبط المارديني), timekeeper (موقّت) of the al-Azhar Mosque at Cairo.
The present copy was completed on 1 Rabīʿ II 1070/16 December 1659 by the scribe ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Zayn al-Dīn al-ʿĀmilī (علي بن محمد بن الحسن بن زين الدين العاملي, see colophon, f. 93v, lines 15-16, transcribed below).
The colophon states that 'it was completed in the hand of the author' on 8 Rabīʿ I 902 / 14 November 1496 (f. 93v, lines 10-12), however as this is six years after the author's death this statement may be spurious, or refer to a subsequent copy.
The colophon (f. 93v, lines 12-17) and the audition certificate in the margin copied from the source manuscript made by Zayn al-Dīn ibn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad, great-grandfather of the scribe (صورة خط جدي) mentions the text's transmission to the former during sessions finishing on Saturday, 19 Rajab 960 /1 July 1553.

الإسلام والمسلمين محمد بن محمد سبط المارديني الحمد لله مسهل الحساب
ومهون الصعاب ورافع الحجاب عن قلوب الأحباب وصلى الله وسلم على
سيدنا محمد...

وهذه كتاب جليل حسن فاق كتب هذه الفن وهذا آخر ما (؟)...

وقد كمل ثامن ربيع الأول سنة إثنين وتسعمائة بخط مؤلفه محمد بن محمد بن أحمد بن محمد بن
أحمد بن الغزال بتخفيف الزاي الدمشقي أصلًا والمصري مولدًا الشهير بسبط
المارديني رحمه الله تعالى كتب من نسخة بخط شيخنا السيد علي القائع رحمه الله وقد قرأها وسمعها
على جدي المرحوم العالم الرباني الشهير بالشهيد الفاني قدس الله روحه وعليها بلاغاته
وكتب السيد المذكور ما هذا لفظ وقد نقلت من نسخة مقروءة على المصـ[ـنف] وعليها بلاغاته وإجازته
وكتبه بيده الجانية الفانية على سبيل الله سبحانه مع استقال البال أقل العباد علي بن
محمد بن الحسن بن زين الدين العاملي عاملهم الله بلطفه وكرمه وعفا عنهم شأنهم بمنة وجوده نعمه
في أوقات يسرع لفراغها غرة شهر ربيع الثاني من شهور سنة سبعين بعد الألف حامدًا مصليًا مسلمًا
