Abridgement of a treatise also by the author, Shihāb al-Dīn Abū al-‘Abbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ha’im al-Maqdisī al-Faraḍī (شهاب الدين أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد بن الهائم المقدسي الفرضي, d. 1412), entitled al-Murshidah fī ṣinā‘at al-ghubār (المرشدة في صناعة الغبار) on arithmetic and ḥisāb al-ghubār, or mathematical calculation by means of the Indian-derived 'dust' numerals (حساب الهند الغباري).
The scribe is ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Zayn al-Dīn (علي بن محمد بن الحسن بن زين الدين, see colophon, f. 133r, tail margin, transcribed below).

أما بعد حمد الله الواحد بكل وجه واعتبار والصلوة والتسليم على نبيه محمد
خير من اختار وعلى آله وصحبه وأزواجه البررة الأطهار فإن كتابي الموسوم بالمرشدة
في صناعة الغبار لما تلقى بالقبول وخطى بالانتشار كلف به صدنولي هوى الاختصار...
