24 letters from Kenneth Leighton to Lydia Vignapiano (later Leighton), the majority in Italian. 1951-1953. The letters date from just before their marriage, and after Kenneth Leighton’s studies in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi. At the time he was living in Deal and corresponding with Lydia in Italy. The selection presented here concern musical matters and include discussion about the composition and performances of pieces written and performed around that time. The letters also discuss figures such as Leopold Stokowski, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Jean Sibelius, Frédéric Chopin and Arnold Schoenberg.
