Collation: 20 quires: i-vi10 (folios 2-61), vii10-1 (folios 62-70), viii-xvi10 (folios 71-160), xvii10 (folios 161-169 and 171; folio 170 is a later insertion), xviii6 (folios 172-177), xixthree (folios 178-180), xx8 (folios 181-188). No catchwords.
Layout: Columns: 2. Ruled lines: 36. Written lines: 36. Uniform layout. Visible hard-point ruling. Hair side and flesh side distinguishable. Titles and inital words in larger characters. Watermark, folio [189r] of a tree-storey hill with a cross on top with a date 1722 beneath, unidentified. Folio 134 is a later restoration, folio 170 is a smaller piece of parchment inserted later.

Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, (owner) Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, (owner) Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), Duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
