Treatise on using the celestial globe by ʿAbd al-Razzāq ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥammādūsh al-Jazāʾirī (عبد الرزاق بن محمد بن محمد بن حمادوش الجزائري, b. 1695), consisting of an introduction and 90 sections (فصل).
The present copy was completed in 1199/1784-5 by an unnamed scribe (see f. 181r, line 10 below).
In the preface the author mentions that ever since he came into possession of a celestial globe, he could find no instructions for its use other than those presented in the seventh bāb of a work on the subject by al-Marrākushī (المراكشي) and so resolved to write his own contribution (f. 158v, lines 7-9). The work referred to is Jāmiʿ al-mabādiʾ wa-al-ghāyāt fī ʿilm al-mīqāt (جامع المبادئ والغايات في علم الميقات), an encyclopaedia of practical astronomy and astronomical instruments written by Sharaf al-Din Abū ‘Alī al-Ḥasan ibn ‘Alī ibn ‘Umar al-Marrākushī (شرف الدين أبو علي الحسن بن علي بن عمر المراكشي, fl. second half of the 13th century). The section referred to is the seventh bāb (الباب السابع في كيفية العمل بالكرة) of Book Three: Using Instruments (الفن الثالث في العمل بالآلات; for example, see London, British Library Or 5831, ff. 215-32), which also consists of 91 sections (on the relationship between these two works, see Saʿd Allāh, 1990).
