- Title:
- Papers relating to Eduard Dietze and 'Mary of Arnhem'
- Scope & Content:
-
Includes photocopies of correspondence from 1946 to 1948 between Eduard Dietze, Controller of the North-West European Service controlling radio broadcasts directed to England, Ireland, and Holland between 1943 and 1945, and Eduard Rhein, founder of the magazine Horzu; an article entitled 'Wer war Mary von Arnheim?' ('Who was Mary of Arnhem?'); drafts of an article entitled 'Ich war Mary von Arnheim' ('I was Mary of Arnhem') by Gerda Eschenberg; and letters from Eschenberg to Rhein. 'Mary of Arnhem' was the nickname given to a pro-German radio propagandist in German-occupied Netherlands. It is now believed that 'Mary of Arnhem' was in fact two different broadcasters: Eschenberg and Helene Sensburg.
