Scope & Content:

The folder contains the following correspondence and memorabilia:

  • Letters written to his wife Lady Chetwode and two written to his daughter Penelope.
  • Letter to him from Montgomery of Alamein [Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein (1887-1976)], dated 3rd April 1946.
  • Letter from Archie W [Archibald Percival Wavell, 1st Earl Wavell (1883-1950)], dated 5th July 1947.
  • Floor plans of Government House, Calcutta.
  • Summary of accounts at District Bank Limited, Market Drayton (1940).
  • Extracts from letters of Second World War British Prisoners of War written from the German prison camp Oflag VI-B (1941), the extracts are from letters written by the following prisoners: Humphrey Dolphin, Peter Ellis, Brian Blackburn and Kenneth Laing.
  • Newspaper cuttings, including a newspaper cutting from The Hindustan Times showing a satirical cartoon.
  • Handwritten instruction to his solicitors.
  • New Year greeting card from the Maharaja Bahadur of Hathwa.
  • Christmas and New Year card with a picture of New Delhi.
  • Programme for the Royal Luncheon to Their Majesties the King and Queen on their return from South Africa, Guildhall, 15th May 1947.
  • Programme for the Gordon Boys School, West End, Woking, 62nd Annual Inspection, 12th July 1947.
  • Programme for 'A Grand Concert' by the band of the 19th Hussars, St Andrew's Hall, Norwich, 11th June 1908.
  • Pencils sketches.
  • Two postcard.
  • Leaflet for a public sale of racing ponies and polo ponies, 26th October 1903.
