This manuscript was composed by Al Hajj Umar Tāl and was completed on the third day of a month of Ramadan of the Islamic year 1244/1230. According to notes from the custodian, the manuscript's completion date is included in the text but is only encoded in the manuscript's title through some Arabic alphabetical numerology. The manuscript is very popular in the West African Muslim community and even beyond. The author composed the text as a commentary on another manuscript, Jawahir al-Ma'ani (Jewels of Meaning), which was composed by Sidi Ali Harazim Baradah recording the teachings of Tijaniyya Sufi founder Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijāni. The content of Tāl's Rimah covers several topics pertaining to Islam in general, but focusing promarily on the Tijaniyya Sufi path. The manuscript is, therefore, a Sufi commentary in defense of the famous teachings of the author's spiritual master. It pulls from the teachings of al-Tijāni as recorded by Baradah, from the Qur'an, from the Sharia (Islamic law), and from the Sunnah (the normative reports about Prophet Muhammad's sayings and deeds). The manuscript contains 55 parts.
