- Title:
- Notes tracing a claim to the Scottish throne
- Scope & Content:
-
Notes tracing a claim to the Scottish throne, beginning with Ranulph de Blundeville (c. 1172-1232), Earl of Chester, Lincoln and Huntingdon, his death and burial, and the marriages of his four sisters. It then records the same for his heir, John of Scotland (c. 1207-1237), 9th earl of Huntingdon and 7th earl of Chester, then John’s brother-in-law John Balliol (c. 1248-1314), ‘true king of Scots’, and David of Scotland (1152-1219), Earl of Huntingdon, who married Ranulph’s eldest sister (Matilda of Chester, 1171-1233).
Probably written in England, as the Balliol claim to the Scottish throne was resigned to King Edward III (r. 1327-1377) by Edward Balliol (b. in or after 1281, d. 1364) in 1357.
