Licence from Thomas Cranmer (r. 1532-53), archbishop of Canterbury, for Edward Griffith of Braybrooke and Elizabeth Palmer to marry; given at Lambeth, 27 September 1535.
Endorsed: in a 17th-century hand, ‘Licence for marriage to / Thomas Griffyn / Elizabeth Palmer’.
Affixed with a fragmentary seal of Thomas Cranmer, lozenge, red, with the Trinity in a gothic niche, flanked by archbishops, in an arched niche below is an archbishop praying, on the left is a heraldic shield with the arms of the archbishopric impaling a chevron between three choughs, on the right is a shield with five fusils in fesse, charged with escallops, impaling six lioncels.
