Receipt by Dorothy Comberford, abbess of the Abbey of the Minoresses of St Clare without Aldgate, London, confirming she and the convent had received from George [Talbot] (1468-1538), earl of Shropshire [Shrewsbury], £26 30s 4d, for the lease of the rectory of Hartington, Derbyshire, and the house there; given 20 October 1526.
Endorsed: in a late 17th-century hand, ‘An acquittance for the rent / of Herrington’; in a 16th-century hand, ‘Sale of the Abbey of / Minors [illegible] / Aldgate Lon[don] / Derb.’
Affixed with an imperfect seal of Dorothy Comberford, a lozenge, red, showing the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, with the abbess kneeling in prayer on the left, with a fragmentary legend, ‘…bbatiss… de gr…ie…’. (see Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887), I, p. 364).
