(1). Title on front cover: ‘Will – Travelling Plan & Copy’. Draft narrative written in tabular format, the notebook turned longways. Reading from the back of the notebook, the draft begins: ‘John’s voice is flat and toneless’ (corresponding to published p. 37). Other draft passages written in similar tabular fashion from the front of the notebook, including the opening of Chapter 3 (published p. 159): ‘Thrust on stage without any lines’. Some ‘post-it’ notes attached to pages, and some used as side-tabs.

(2). Untitled notebook. The first half of the notebook contains notes relating to teaching duties at Birkbeck, University of London. Draft narrative for Will occupies the second half of the notebook, written in tabular format, the notebook turned longways, the date ’15.8.18’ written at the left margin. The draft begins: ‘the wide sleeves of her silk dressing gown dangles down’ (corresponding to published p. 214).
