A bilingual translation and commentary on the canonical text of Parivāra. Jambudhaja's bilingual translation and commentary was the most common nissaya of canonical Vinaya and Samantapāsādikā transmitted in Burma from the mid-seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries. However, the text of that work has not being critically established until now due to the presence of multiple versions of Vinaya nissaya compiled by different authors, all circulated with the same title. Very little reliable information on Jambudhaja is available except that he resided in a key secondary city of Upper Burma and was a recipient of a royally-bestowed monastic title.
Extent and format of original material: A fragmentary bundle of 145 inscribed folios.
Physical characteristics: Incomplete, approx. 59 folios (ki to khāʺ, gā, gū, jhu, jhū, jhe, ññu, ṭi, ṭu to ṭhi, ḍe to ḍhā, ḍhū, ḍhe, ṇai, ṇo, te to toʻ, tho, thaṃ, thāʺ) missing. 50 folios (ka, kā, ga, gi, ghāʺ to ṅoʻ, jhāʺ, ññū to ṭa, ṭhī to ṭhai, ṭhoʻ, ḍhu, ḍho, ṇa, ṇe, ṇoʻ to tū, taṃ, thi, thī, thū, thai, thoʻ) have fragments missing.
