Collection of five texts on the occult properties (خواصّ) of stones and other natural substances attributed to Hermes (هرمس), Aristotle (أرسطاطاليس, d. 322 BC) and other sages.
Contents:
(1) Book on the Knowledge of Stones, their Occult Properties and Inscriptions (كتاب معرفة الحجارة وخاصيتها ونقوشها, ff. 126r-137r), said to be from Kitāb al-Hādhīṭūs (كتاب الهاذيطوس, see f. 126r, lines 8-9 transcribed below, and above, item 4 in present manuscript) by the first Hermes (هرمس الأول), although other sources including a Book of Tanūrīs (مصحف التنوريس) 'who was one of the eight painters in the temple located in Dendera amongst the work of Upper Egypt, which is by the masters of the moving idols' (وهو أحد الثمانية المصورين في الهيكل الموضوع بدندرا من عمل صعيد مصر وهو لأصحاب الأصنام المتحركة) are mentioned on ff. 127r, line 6-127v, line 8;
(2) Description of the stones of the planets and how to engrave them (صفة أحجار الكواكب وكيفية نقوشها, ff. 137r-154r), said to be from the Book of Nūdashīr the Priest (مصحف نودشير) 'according to what has its origin in the temple of Akhmīm amongst the work of Egypt' (على ما أصله في بربى أخميم من عمل مصر, f. 137r, lines 8-10, where the manuscript has شربا احميم for بربى أخميم);
(3) Chapter on the pulverulence of stones by Funṭus (باب محكات الأحجار لفنطس, ff. 154r-156v);
(4) Description of stones from the discourse of Aristotle and others (نعت الأحجار من كلام أرسطاطاليس وغيره, ff. 156v-190v);
(5) Hermes' Book on the Uses of Stones and Occult Properties of Things (كتاب هرمس في منافع الأحجار وخواص الأشياء, ff. 190v-197r).
