Anne of Bohemia (b. 1366, d. 1394), Queen of England and wife of Richard II (r. 1377-1399), grants to Robert Westende, purveyor of the Queen’s coaches, an annuity of 40s from the issues of the manor of Cosham, Wiltshire; given at Windsor, 6 May 1394 [17 Richard II].
Affixed with Anne’s red seal, very fragmentary; within finely designed gothic device of tracery and foliage, a shield of arms ensigned with crown of three points: France quartering England; impaling the German Empire quartering Bohemia (Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887-1900), I, p. 102).

Provenance:
Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician. Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
