ff. 1r-5r: Copy of a letter sent to the Trustees of the British Museum by the Bibliotheque nationale, France, Paris, November 1877, relating to the theft of articles of the original ff. 6r-17r from the BnF by Jean Aymon in 1706 and 1707. The BnF had recovered many, but important fragments were bound into Harley MS 7551. The director of the BnF proposed an exchange of manuscripts (ff. 1r-4r); English note relating to the return of the leaves to the BnF in exchange for Add MS 30525-30766, 15 April 1878 (f. 5r). English and French.
ff. 6r-8r: Illuminated miniatures of (1) St Paul and (2) St John Chrysostom between Oikumenios and Theodoret, 11th century. Collotypes, circa 1880, of Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, MS gr. 224 (Greg.-Aland 1934), ff. 6r, 6v, 7r (H. Omont, Miniatures des plus anciens manuscrits grecs de la Bibliothèque nationale du VIe au XIVe siècle, Paris 1929, pls CI, CXV).
ff. 9r-17r: Biblical epistles (imperfect), 9th century. Collotype, c 1880. Latin.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
