- Scope & Content:
- A bound volume of collected correspondence and notes relating to a proposed union of scientific and literary institutions. The letters are mostly replies to a circular from Henry Dircks in 1839 and another from the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge inviting the delegates to a meeting on 29 Aug 1839 to discuss establishing a union of societies. This volume also includes a poster and a flyer advertising the meeting and a report from Nov 1839 detailing the outcome of the meeting.The middle of the volume consist of notes collating information regarding mechanical institutions and libraries across the country, detailing their membership numbers, subscription fees and regular lecture nights. This folder also includes two pages of notes about the contents of this volume.
