This material is a Tamil palm-leaf manuscript titled Vaṟṟāppaḷai am'maṉ kāviyam from Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The period of this manuscript is unknown but it is estimated to be from the period between 1901- 1950. This palmleaf manuscript is an epic text. Srī Viṣṉu Kāviyam and Vaṟṟāppalaiyammaṉ Kāviyam of both the Lord Vishnu and the Goddess Vaṟṟāppalaiyammaṉ. In the last part of the Srī Viṣṉu Kāviyam there is a section blessing maṭṭunakar, the name of present day Batticaloa and nīlāvaṉaipatiyiluṟaiyum arirāmar, the lord who manifested in another place called Nilavanai. This helps us understand the geographical and deity based connects of the temple where the manuscript was found. There are 22 pages that are remaining of the manuscript that are readable. These contain the ritual Kuḷirttippāṭal to assuage the anger of Kaṉṉakiyammaṉ, the deity form of Kaṉṉaki, the protagonist of the Tamil epic Cilappatikāram. In her worship practice in Sri Lanka her anger that burnt the ancient city of Madurai, is assuaged by the Kuḷirttippāṭal.
