This Tamil palm-leaf manuscript is from Point Pedro, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. This manuscript is dated December 05, 1850. This palmleaf manuscript is titled the 1500 teachings of Akattiya Mūrtti Nāyaṉār. These teachings are refered to as meyñāṉam, a tamil word that refers to visceral and natural awareness embodied knowledge. It is usually understood in contrast with viñāṉam or rational scientific knowledge. It consists of rituals of prayers and practices connected to medicinal practice. It mentions prayers for the goddess Tēvi. It consists details on what is known as the 'nature of women' - peṇṇiṉ kuṇam. It outlines philosophical understandings of the body. It addresses diseases of ear, nose, throat and face. It consists information on treatement for muscle spasms, headaches etc. It mentions cures for pregnant women's exhaustion. Digestive concerns are addressed and also conditions related to dehydration. Medicines including electuaries, pills and other preparations made from medicinal herbs. The document also mentions worship of small deities and related practices involving spirits and ghosts. It mentions instructions for those practicing the dark arts using a black pigment, used also as eye makeup known as mai pārttal. These instructions also involve herbal concoctions. There is a list of medicinal oils known as tayilam for different groups of ailments and made from different parts of plants including the roots. It includes a note on the details of who to contact to make corrections to spellings and grammar in the manuscript.
