- Title:
- A. W. Roberts' handwritten notes and observations of R Carinae and other stars.
- Scope & Content:
-
Notes, calculation and observations of R Carinae. In addition, one slim folder contains summary information of 21 variable stars: R Cen (5096), T Cen (4896), U Cen (4488), W Cen (4260), X Cen (4225), RS Cen (4057), RT Cen (4935), W Vel, R Car (3418), S Car (3637), Z Car (101058), RR Car (3569), "Carinae" (3663a), L2 Pup (2583), W Pup (2776), R Oct (2139), S Col (2059), T Col (1894), R Pic (1701), S Pic (1850), and R Cae (1662). Many pages in this collection do not identify the star(s) under discussion. Two graphs are labelled "R Carinae". Several unusual items. A piece of paper with a curved cut, resembling a section of a light curve. 28 variable star estimates (1933 April 23 to 1933 July 23) are recorded on small pieces of loose paper. 26 observations (1933 July 22 to 1933 August 24) are recorded on writing paper with the letter head of the Amatola Hotel (Alice, Cape Province). Includes naked-eye observations on 1933 April 28 and 30. On most of these loose papers, the star's designation is not noted. A small number of observations are identified as being of l Carinae and [kappa] Pavonis. One small slip of paper contains 7 lines of writing, struck through, which contains what may be a paraphrase of a poem by Scottish poet and songwriter Robert Gilfillan. Previously listed as R003. Found in a brown paper wrapped bundle, in a Waltons storage box marked R003 and labelled "R CARINAE (B) / DATA INGEVOER".
