Specific targets included Nova Pictoris and the Large Magellanic Cloud. The 1.5-inch Cooke lens took plates (Plate Series AM) at Bloemfontein between 1935 April 15 and 1954 January 06. The 3-inch Ross-Fecker lens was used to take Plate Series RB, exposed at Bloemfontein between 1928 October 31 and 1952 January 17.
