Contents:
ff. 1r-6v: Draft complaint by Sir Thomas Cotton (1594-1662), 2nd baronet, against John Milton of Bread Street, London (1562-1647), father of the poet of the same name, concerning a debt owed by Thomas’ uncle, John, for whom Thomas is executor. Cotton accuses the two of misappropriated money that was entrusted to Milton and his fellow scrivener, John Bower, to be loaned at interest.

ff. 9r-v: Notes and excerpts from the testimonies of the defendants.
ff. 10r-11v: Letter from Henry Percy to Thomas Cotton regarding the case, 3 April 1637.

Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
