Confirmation of King Henry I of England (r. 1100-1135) to Norwich Cathedral Priory of a grant by Ralph, son of Godric, of land at Newton (Norfolk) with privileges there.
Witnesses: Queen Matilda (1080-1118), William Bigod (d. 1120), Roger, bishop of Salisbury (1102-1139), and Ralph son of Godric.
Endorsed: 'De Newtona' (12th century).
'King Hen. I / Norwich Priory / Lands at Newton' (17th century).
Affixed with an imperfect seal of Henry I, oval, brown, with the king enthroned in loose robes, a sword in his right hand, an orb with a cross in his left. 'henricu... ...ei ...atia anglorum'. Reverse: The king mounted and armoured, a lance in his right hand with a cross pattée banner, a shield in his left hand. 'henricus d...i gra... rex anglorum'.
Dated to between Roger's nomination as bishop in 1102 and Matilda's death in 1118.

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician. Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
