m. 2: Grant by Henry III to John de Balliol (d. 1268) and Devorguilla of Galloway (d. 1290), his wife, of the manors of Liddingland and Torksey. Given at Guildford, 11 December 1227.
m. 3: A further grant by Henry III to John de Balliol and Devorguilla, his wife, of the manors of Liddingland and Torksey.
m. 3-8v: Inquisition taken by Robert of Bayland, sheriff of Lincoln, and the bailiff of the bishop of Lincoln and the bailiff of Devorguilla Balliol, into the liberties of Torksey. 6 May 1228.
m. 7v: Quitclaim by Robert Jolan of Stow to the town of Torksey of a piece of meadow.

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician. Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
