Copy of the pardon of the commons of Kent by King Richard II of England (r. 1377-1399).
Given at London, 15 June 1381.
Followed by a note that the original sealed charter remains in the hands of Henry Appulderfield, with a list of the dates of the Black Death, the capture of John II of France, an earthquake in 1362, and a storm in 1361, and ending with a note from the scribe that they wrote this and that if it is insufficient for the reader that they do not know what else to add.
Endorsed: 'Ricardo Beer tradatur' (late 14th century).

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician. Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
