A Pecha. A Tibetan book, made of long strips of paper, in imitation of the Indian palm-leaf manuscripts.
- Scope & Content:
- A handwritten Tibetan text (pecha) on modern paper. In "headed" Tibetan dbu chen (Uchen) script and "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Ume) script. ས་བདག་གདོན་གྲོལ་བཞུགས་སོ། A ritual for the Lord of the Earth / Earth god (ས་བདག) Used when building the foundations for houses and disturbing the earth. To prevent annoying the Earth Lord, the ritual requests it leaves . གདོན་གྲོལ་ cause to come out / expel/ release.
Extent: One book section consisting of twelve folios.
Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 34 cm x 20 cm, folding to 34 cm x 10 cm.
Condition of original material: The fourth of several texts bound into one volume.
Arrangement: All the material is kept within the prayer room (not seen). The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
