A Pecha. A Tibetan book, made of long strips of paper, in imitation of the Indian palm-leaf manuscripts.
- Scope & Content:
- A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. In "headed" Tibetan dbu chen (Uchen) script. The title is unreadable. This is a text for a ritual for blocking or overcoming the negative effects of mika (malicious gossip) མི་ཁ་བཞུགས་སོ།.
Extent: One unbound book consisting of seven folios.
Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 26 cm x 7 cm.
Condition of original material: Staining and discolouration through age and usage. One page damaged but all text legible apart from the cover.
Arrangement: All the material was kept in a box in the prayer room (unseen). The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
