- Handwritten and typed letters between Alfred Douglas and the publisher, Martin Secker, regarding the publication of The Wilde Myth.
These letters cover the history of their engagement relating to this publication, from Douglas' initial letter requesting an advance payment on signing the contract in Mar 1915, to the closure of their affairs in Mar 1917. Many of these letters include their original envelopes.
The contents include apologies from Douglas regarding delays in finishing his manuscript, references to the First World War, details of a custody battle for Douglas' son, an apology to Mr Secker after a misunderstanding at a meeting in London, threats of legal action against Mr Secker for attempting to end their contract, and a request for a loan so Douglas could publish the work himself.
This folder also includes:
- a letter sent to Douglas on behalf of Martin Secker by R S, dated 30 Jan 1917, regarding the publication of an essay on a sonnet
- a telegram from Douglas to Secker, dated 20 Oct 1916, concerning edits
