- Scope & Content:
- Wootton numbered the letters K1 to K82, and there is an index of people and subjects. The letters begin with Wootton travelling to Burma in May 1947, thereafter they are addressed from Syriam, near Rangoon. The letters describe his work as a mechanical engineer for the Burmah Oil Company and life in Burma, including observations of the people, language and culture. Other subjects discussed in the letters include the assassination of Aung San, Burma independence, Karen insurrection, strikes and labour unrest, Syriam under attack. The letters are often illustrated with small sketches and maps.
