- Scope & Content:
- Wootton numbered the letters K83 to K139. There is an index of people and subjects, and a list of all the letters (K1-K139) with a summary of their contents. The letters begin with Wootton working as an engineer for the Burmah Oil Company at Syriam, near Rangoon, and end with his return journey to England in September 1950. They describe his work for the Company and life in Burma, including observations of the people, language and culture. Other subjects discussed in the letters include visits to Chauk, Darjeeling and Sikkim, and working at the Digboi oil refinery in Assam from May to August 1950. The letters are often illustrated with small sketches and maps.
