- This morning we waited upon the Foyen. We told him that though we were designed for Amoy, yet that we were induced to stay & trade here upon the character we had had of his great justice & the assurances that had been given us that he would allow us all reasonable priviledges. [A new clause was added to the usual privileges]. That there be no punch house built at Wampo, in order to prevent quarrells between the sailors & Chinese, & that we may not at this distance be answerable for their actions, or any accidents that may happen, if they should.
