- Title:
- Separate diary of James Naish at Canton and Macao
- Scope & Content:
- It is proper to observe that Openg tea hath been planted in a neighbouring province, purposely to mix with Bohea, sometimes putt off for it, & these abuses are not likely to be prevented whilst the French, Dutch & Ostenders under borrowed colours continue tradeing largely to this port. That they did last year receive coarse and mixed teas is not to be doubted, for Openg tea rose from six to ten tales per pecul, which I think is a sufficient proof of its being designed for them, and their small quantity of green tea had an incredible variety of coarse & dust, yet it was received without any complaint thereof.
