[pp 1-2] Extract of Public letter to Fort St George, dated the 23rd April 1794, regarding an expected scarcity of grain in the Northern Circars due to the want of the periodical rains, and the suggestion by Dr Roxburgh on the introduction of such useful trees, shrubs and other plants deemed likely to yield sustenance to the poorer classes of Natives in times of scarcity.
[p 3] Extract of Public letter to Fort St George, dated 27th April 1803, proposing the retention of a small spot of ground in Bangalore for the purpose of cultivating the potato, turnip and other culinary vegetables.
[pp 5-6] Extract of Public letter to Fort St George, dated 27th June 1804, regarding the appointment of Dr Heyne as Botanist and Naturalist to the East India Company.
[p 7] Extract of Fort St George Public Consultations, dated 4th October 1803, instructing that the Company's Botanist and Naturalist should report the state of the Garden at Bangalore and the expense attending the care of it.
[pp 9-10] Letter from Dr Heyne, Company's Botanist and Naturalist, to Lord William Cavendish Bentinck, Governor & President in Council, Fort St George, dated 16 November 1803, reporting on the flourishing state of the Garden at Bangalore.
[pp 10-12] Minute by William Bentinck, dated 12 November 1803, suggesting that many beneficial purposes may result from Dr Heyne being permanently established in superintending and extending the cultivation of useful plants and culinary vegetables in the Garden at Bangalore, and proposing that Dr Heyne be instructed to report to Government the probability of success in attempting to introduce the cultivation of the bread fruit into Mysore. He also suggests that Dr Heyne could apply his mineralogical knowledge to the subject of gold sand, collected in the vicinity of Bangalore, and the mode of extracting it from the stones in which it is embedded.
[pp 13-15] Report by Dr Heyne, dated Bangalore 25th August 1804, reporting on the state of the garden under his care, stating that it had suffered due to drought, and requesting permission to purchase around 400 sheep to ensure a supply of manure for the Garden.
[pp 17-19] Extracts from Public letters from Fort St George, dated 23rd March 1804 and 16th October 1804, regarding Dr Heyne's report on the Botanical Garden at Bangalore.
