This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, minutes, and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, political letters to and from the governments of Bombay and Bengal. The correspondents are the Government of Bombay; the Government of Bengal; the East India Company Court of Directors; Captain William Fitzwilliam Owen of HMS Leven; Henry Hardy, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; Lieutenant Thomas Tanner, Commander of the Antelope; Commodore Joseph Nourse, Commander of His Majesty’s Ships at the Cape of Good Hope.
The item concerns:
- The state of the slave trade at Mozambique, Madagascar, and Johanna [Anjouan]
- The liberation of three Christian women from Bahrein [Bahrain], who had been kidnapped from Mangalore
- Owen’s survey expedition and suggestions for the suppression of the slave trade.
